The fifth edition of the International Conference on Quality Engineering and Management (ICQEM) took place at the University of Minho on July 14 and 15.
This conference is an international forum to present and discuss the progress and recent evolutions in the fields of Quality Management, Quality Engineering and Organizational Excellence.
This edition was focused on “Quality in the digital transformation”. Nicole Radziwill (Digital Quality Leadership: The Long Game), Carlos Ribas (Quality4.0 @ Bosch), Josef Oehmen (Quality in the Age of Uncertainty: What we can learn from resilience thinking) and Mareike Möhlmann (Algorithmic Management of Work on Online Labor Platforms: When Matching Meets Control) were the keynote speakers of the conference.

More than 100 proposals were submitted and almost 90 were accepted for presentation, after revision by the Conference Scientific Committee.
The best paper award was "The Challenges of Remote Work to the Development of a TQM Culture" by Patrícia Moura e Sá.
The best student paper award was "Product complexity and quality in assembly processes: state of the art and
challenges for industrial HRC" by Matteo Capponi (PhD student), Luca Mastrogiacomo, Dario Antonelli and Fiorenzo
Franceschini.
Further, the novelty of this edition were two masterclasses performed on July 13 by Jorge J. Roman (Building a Quality & Digital Transformation Strategy) and the Obeikan Investment Group (Experience the Future of Smart Manufacturing…Obeikan Digital Product for Industry 4.0) by Abdallah Obeikan, Saber Atiyeh, and Khaled Hassan.
